Drake professor Jack Gerlovich and his Science Pioneers Professional Development Program team are putting the “success” in succession this summer as the program gains a following among teachers in central Iowa.

Drake alumni and friends will be amazed, delighted, thrilled and frightened at the curious oddities on display at the stunning all-day circus sideshow at Drake Day at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Earlier this year, Kate McGinty, JO'07, was just one of 350 applicants for Gannett Co. Inc.'s new annual Talent Development Program. Today, McGinty is one of the first class of 32 college graduates chosen nationwide for the program.

All Democratic and Republican presidential candidates have confirmed their attendance at two ABC News and ABC5/WOI-TV live debates that will take place at Drake University in August.

Steve Loney, who has 30 years of coaching experience at the pro and collegiate levels, has been named interim head football coach at Drake University.

With a college degree in one hand and a plane ticket in the other, 21 Drake grads will take off in August to land their first job with the Teach in China program for the 2007-08 academic year. Four graduates registered for a second or third year to fuel their hunger for international experience.

Twenty-three Drake University students are recovering from jet lag and a whirlwind three-week trip to eastern Asia after returning from the Travel Study Seminar in China. The course, titled "The 'Middle Kingdom' in a Global World: Considering Family, Self and Nation in a Changing China," allowed students to experience Chinese history, politics, culture and society first hand.

Gary Parker, a 1989 graduate of Drake University, created the concept for a new month-long ESPN television series called "Who's Now," scheduled to premier on "SportsCenter" at 7 p.m. Eastern time Friday, June 29.
