The fall concert season will conclude with a Drake Symphony Orchestra performance under the direction of guest conductor Clarence Padilla at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Avenue.

After an intense rush of brainstorming, writing, editing and designing, senior magazine capstone students at Drake University are poised and ready to launch their fall 2006 issue of 515 Magazine.

Three Drake students received first place awards for outstanding scientific research presentations at the 2006 Sigma Xi Student Research Conference in Detroit, held November 3-4.

Four Drake University faculty members will present a reading of Donald Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning "Dinner with Friends" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave. The event is free and open to the pubic.

Drake University’s mock trial teams stormed the Creighton Bluejay Invitational held Dec. 1-2, placing first, third and fourth in a field of 28 teams.

James L. Dodd, professor of accounting at Drake University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik during the spring semester, according to the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Drake University Choral Ensembles and the Westminster Presbyterian Church Oratorio Choir and Orchestra will join forces in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in the Performing Arts Hall, Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue.

Two Drake students are passionate about turning Darfur into a buzzword on Drake’s campus and in the Des Moines community. Alison Bowlin, a junior from Indianola, and Emily Carter, a senior from Celina, Texas, organized "Drake for Darfur," a week of activities beginning Monday, Dec. 4.

Beginning Thursday, Dec. 7, Drake University Theatre will present "Sunday on the Rocks," a dark comedy written by Theresa Rebeck and student-directed by Avian Jangula, a senior theatre arts major from Minneapolis.

Jane Elliott, an internationally renowned Iowa teacher and lecturer, will give an interactive speech about power, perception and prejudice at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium.
