Magazine majors take Manhattan
Drake University magazine majors travel to New York City this week on a super-charged networking trip. Professor Jeff Inman (@magstudies) has arranged visits to 11 different magazine offices. Also on the itinerary: an alumni mixer, a visit to the WTC Memorial, and, of course, Times Square.
Greg Swan to visit SJMC classes Thursday
Drake SJMC grad Greg Swan will be speaking to two classes Thursday morning. He will talk to David Remund's PR Writing class at 9:30 a.m. and Chris Snider's Social Media Strategies class at 11 a.m.
SJMC to host “Community in Diversity” visiting professional on March 8
Tracy Baim is founder and publisher of Windy City Media Group, Chicago’s largest gay-oriented media organization. She has written books on gay history and politics, produced movies and is a frequent contributor to national publications. She has received multiple awards for her journalism and community work.
DBS hosting film festival March 4
SAB and DBS have teamed up to create a student film festival on March 4. Students can submit their 15-minute (or shorter) creative films to the SAB Entertainment Mailbox by midnight March 4 for a chance to win $200 (second place is $150).

The Electronic Media capstone has produced its first of 12 newscasts this semester. Begun in 1993, the Spring Semester offering primarily involves seniors in Radio-Television Producing and Broadcast News, but students in other classes contribute content and other skills.
T-D named Iowa College Paper of the Year
The Times-Delphic also won first place for general excellence. Senior Ann Schnoebelen won three first-place writing awards. The awards covered work published in 2010-11, under Editor Lizzie Pine.
Advertising Age editor Abbey Klaassen will visit Drake
Abbey Klaassen, editor of Advertising Age and a 2002 graduate of Drake University, will visit campus Wednesday, February 1, as part of the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies Visiting Professionals Series.
