Fredericksen Visits Radio News Class

Iowa Public Radio correspondent Rick Fredericksen says today’s digital field recording equipment allows him to concentrate even more on natural sound for his stories. A regular visitor to the fall semester Radio News class, Fredericksen discussed his news career which has ranged from American Forces Viet Nam Network in Saigon to the anchor desk at KRNT-TV (now KCCI), Hawaii television and 10-years as Bureau Chief for CBS News in Thailand. He covered Japanese Emperor Hirohito’s funeral and the Sino-Soviet Summit in China. Fredericksen’s recent Kindle book After the Hanoi Hilton: An Accounting describes U.S. efforts to locate missing Viet Nam-era service people.  The Des Moines native primarily produces longer-form feature stories for Iowa Public Radio.
