On Wednesday, April 16, Drake University will host a special program for language immersion students from Merrill Middle School to celebrate Pan American Day. The students will participate in Drake Spanish courses in the morning and have the opportunity to celebrate Pan American dance and music at a performance by Drake students in Olmsted Center in the afternoon.

Dr. Richard Deming, medical director at Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology and medical director of the CyberKnife Radiosurgery Center of Iowa, will receive an honorary degree from Drake University at undergraduate commencement on Sunday, May 18.

On April 21, Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa will host its 35th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest in the Drake University Knapp Center. Fifty English bulldogs are in the running for this year’s contest, all in hopes of being crowned the 2014 Drake Relays’ official mascot.

The lecture, “Expressing the Inexpressible: The Heartbeat of Sikh Mysticism” by Nikky-Gunider Kaur Singh, Crawford Family Professor of Religion at Colby College uses the ”beat of the heart” as a metaphor to help listeners understand the complexities of Sikh mysticism.
