Three junior magazine majors will spend their summers interning at top New York magazines.

Craig Armstrong, vice president and general manager of Iowa Speedway, will conclude Drake’s spring 2007 "Let’s DU Lunch" lecture series with a talk beginning at noon Wednesday, April 4, at the Polk County Convention Complex, 501 Grand Ave.

At the Drake Double D Award dinner held Feb. 17, Drake Athletics recognized four outstanding alumni for achievements in their chosen fields of endeavor and/or community service since leaving Drake.

First-year student Robert J. Johnson has been asked to speak on a panel at a forum titled "Promote Permanent Families: Reform Foster Care Now," which will be held March 12 in Washington, D.C.

Fifty contestants sporting whiskers, wrinkles and wagging tails will compete in the 28th annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest to kick off Drake Relays Festival Week on Monday, April 23, at Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines. The winning bulldog will serve as Drake’s mascot for the 98th running of the Drake Relays April 26-28.

Six former Drake standouts have been selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball All-Centennial team, which was determined by an online fan vote (www.mvc100.org), in-arena ballots at the recent MVC tournament in St. Louis and a centennial committee.

Some 30 faculty members from around the region will convene at Drake for a weekend of elaborate role-playing later this month. Led by College of Arts and Sciences Dean John Burney, this spring’s "Reacting to the Past" regional conference will be held March 23-25 on behalf of a consortium of 35 colleges and universities.

Scott Brennan, chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, and Leon Mosley, co-chair of the Iowa Republican Party, will open the new Drake-IowaPolitics.com Luncheon Series. The event will start at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, on Drake’s campus in Levitt Hall, Old Main.

The Drake men's tennis team has added another milestone to its resume as the Bulldogs ascended to No. 53 in the latest rankings the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) unveiled this week.

Schmoozing with legislators isn’t usually on a pharmacy student’s to-do list. But at last month’s annual Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Legislative Day, Drake pharmacy students devoted a day to discussing health care legislation with Iowa state representatives.
