SJMC Monday Memo

Welcome to a delayed holiday week edition of the Monday Memo — and welcome to Drake SJMC’s new dean, Dr. Catherine Staub, who began her duties July 1!

Drake SJMC hosting summer camp this week

After a two-year Covid sabbatical, SJMC is once again hosting in person Media Now Drake, its summer camp for high school journalism students. More than 70 students and advisers from around the nation will be on campus July 6-9 to have fun and study photography, videography, writing, design, political and sports journalism and more. Classes are taught by the nation’s top journalism teachers and professionals, including Drake faculty. Welcome to campus!

Alumni news

Amy Duncan, JO’88, GR’94, and her husband, Mark Davitt, have purchased the Indianola, Iowa, Record-Herald newspaper. They are currently the publishers of the online news source Indianola Independent Advocate. Duncan and Davitt were both previously employed by the Record-Herald. The Independent Advocate will continue to publish daily and the Record-Herald will publish weekly.
