SJMC student scholarship and award winners recognized

For the next few weeks, we’ll recognize the SJMC students who have earned scholarships, awards or honors this spring.

Jim Duncan Memorial Award — Josh Harris. Named after the legendary broadcast professor and “Voice of the Drake Relays” to honor a promising student in the Duncan tradition.

SJMC centennial party a success

Thanks to junior Kiley Kahler for all her work planning, promoting and organizing the SJMC’s centennial celebration this past weekend. More than 100 alums and friends gathered to toast more than a century of journalism education at Drake.

Professor Jolliffe’s book receives award

Professor Lee Jolliffe’s book “Adventure Journalism in the Gilded Age: Essays from the Arctic to the Orient,” which she co-edited with two colleagues, received the 2022 Browne Award for Best Edited Collection in Popular and American Culture.

Retirement reception for Dean Richardson

Dean Kathleen Richardson is retiring after more than 20 years as a Drake teacher and administrator. Faculty, staff and students are invited to a retirement reception to celebrate her career on Friday, May 6, 3-5 p.m. in the north lobby of Meredith Hall near the atrium.

Alumni news

SJMC alum Reed Fischer, JO’17, who was a record-setting runner at Drake, finished the recent Boston Marathon as the sixth American male and 16th overall. Fischer is a digital marketing associate at Room 214 marketing agency in Boulder, CO.
