DBS hosting film festival March 4

SAB and DBS have teamed up to create a student film festival on March 4. Students can submit their 15-minute (or shorter) creative films to the SAB Entertainment Mailbox by midnight March 4 for a chance to win $200 (second place is $150).

DrakeLINE 2012 Premieres

The Electronic Media capstone has produced its first of 12 newscasts this semester. Begun in 1993, the Spring Semester offering primarily involves seniors in Radio-Television Producing and Broadcast News, but students in other classes contribute content and other skills.

The Times-Delphic also won first place for general excellence. Senior Ann Schnoebelen won three first-place writing awards. The awards covered work published in 2010-11, under Editor Lizzie Pine.

Assistant prof. Jeff Inman's senior magazine capstone at Drake University feels equal parts college-newspaper-the-night-before-press and professional blog newsroom. Perhaps that's because the veteran of alternative weeklies, including Des Moines'Cityview, runs this class of over a dozen senior journalism students like a commercial publication.

Drake University's journalism capstone publication, Think, recently won an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award. News/Internet and magazine majors produce the newsmagazine as a semester-long project during their senior year.

Students in the Web Page Design class learn the basics of HTML and CSS, as well as what makes a website successful. The final class project is to create a website using the Wordpress content management system.

Five SJMC students graduate mid-year

Five SJMC students were awarded their Bachelor of Arts degrees at the mid-year commencement Dec. 17. It was Drake’s first mid-year commencement since 1969 and combined the awarding of specialist, doctorate, master and bachelor degrees.
