As assistant dean from 2013 to 2023, Clarke has been instrumental in the development and improvement of multiple pharmacy experiential program initiatives such as the creation of new competencies, implementation of entrustable professional activities, redesign of case log submissions, documentation of interprofessional interactions, and more. During her tenure, Clarke also led the implementation of experiential education programs for new degree programs: Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD), Master of Athletic Training (MAT), Master of Health Informatics and Analytics (MSHIA), and the Master of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She also supported the initial and re-accreditation of the programs.

Additionally, Clarke revised the PharmD curriculum to support advanced pharmacy practice experience readiness preparation, revised the requirements and grading processes for the Health Sciences Senior Internship program, created and documented the interprofessional education activities provided to students through experiential education, and led the conversion of the College’s experiential education learning management system.

Eliza Dy-Boarman, associate professor of pharmacy practice, is succeeding Clarke as the assistant dean for clinical affairs and director of experiential education. Dy-Boarman began at Drake after earning a PharmD from Butler University in 2011 and completing a two-year pharmacotherapy residency with Indiana University Health and Butler University in 2013. In addition to joining the pharmacy practice department at Drake as a faculty member, Dy-Boarman began serving as the coordinator of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences and P2 (second-year) Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences. She has also served as the director of the CPHS Resident Teaching and Learning Curriculum and as a member of multiple experiential committees in the College.

Dy-Boarman was named the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Emerging Teaching Scholar Awardee in 2019 and completed the AACP Leadership and Management Certificate program in 2020. Her research and scholarship activities focus on experiential learning and scholarship of teaching and learning.

“Cheryl Clarke’s leadership has been essential to the success of our experiential programs, and she has served as both a mentor and role model for me over the course of my career,” said Dy-Boarman. “I am honored to step into this role and lead experiential education across our existing and future CPHS programs. As we look to the future, our Experiential Education team will continue to prioritize high-quality educational experiences, excellent student outcomes, and strong external partnerships.”

“It has been an honor to serve in the Assistant Dean role during this period of expansion,” said Clarke. “I am excited for the fresh vision that Eliza will bring to our experiential programs. I have no doubt that under her leadership the experiential team will continue our strong history of excellence while implementing new opportunities for students.”
