Some 30 faculty members from around the region will convene at Drake for a weekend of elaborate role-playing later this month. Led by College of Arts and Sciences Dean John Burney, this spring’s "Reacting to the Past" regional conference will be held March 23-25 on behalf of a consortium of 35 colleges and universities.

Actuaries, those number-crunching whizzes who help determine insurance premiums based on the odds of bad things happening, are in high demand these days, because new mathematical models are needed to respond to natural disaster trends and the growing complexity of health care insurance.

The fourth annual Drake University Conference on Undergraduate Research in the Sciences (DUCURS) will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Parents Hall, Olmsted Center. Rodney Rogers, LA'49, GR'51, professor of biology, will also be honored at a luncheon for his 51 years of service at Drake.

Schmoozing with legislators isn’t usually on a pharmacy student’s to-do list. But at last month’s annual Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Legislative Day, Drake pharmacy students devoted a day to discussing health care legislation with Iowa state representatives.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has announced that Jennifer Fix, PH'85, GR'86, is the recipient of the 2006 APhA Good Government Pharmacist-of-the-Year Award.

This spring, the annual Drake Law School Constitutional Law Symposium will tackle a bold topic for debate: Does the U.S. Constitution thwart democracy? The event, titled "Our 'Undemocratic' American Constitution," is set for Saturday, April 7, with activities beginning at 8 a.m. in Cartwright Hall.

Nationally renowned journalist and author Neenah Ellis, FA'81, will be the featured speaker at the Live! @ the Drake Library Series on Tuesday, March 27. Ellis will share highlights of her career at 7 p.m. in the Cowles Library Reading Room.

Tickets for the 98th running of the Drake Relays, to be held April 26-28, are now on sale at the Drake Athletic Ticket Office.

Six former Drake standouts have been selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball All-Centennial team, which was determined by an online fan vote (www.mvc100.org), in-arena ballots at the recent MVC tournament in St. Louis and a centennial committee.

At the Drake Double D Award dinner held Feb. 17, Drake Athletics recognized four outstanding alumni for achievements in their chosen fields of endeavor and/or community service since leaving Drake.
