Help us get back to “normal” — report your vaccination All members of the Drake community are encouraged to help alleviate the threat of the pandemic by getting vaccinated. And, once you are fully vaccinated, please report that to the University. Required campus safety protocols in the fall — including mask wearing and social distancing — will be determined by how many people on campus are vaccinated. Drake University and Institute of World Politics form partnership for international affairs education

Drake University signed a new memorandum of understanding with The Institute of World Politics (IWP), an independent graduate school for students pursuing careers in statecraft, national security, intelligence, and global affairs. IWP has campuses in Washington, D.C. and Reston, Virginia. As part of this new partnership, Drake University students are now eligible for early admission to IWP’s master’s programs if they apply on or after April 30 of their third year of college. Drake Law Review is ranked 28 in the country in the most recent Washington & Lee (W&L) Law Journal Rankings. The ranking reflects the number of court decisions that have cited the Law Review during the five-year period from 2016-2020. Maintained by the W&L Law Library, the rankings are a world-recognized resource for identifying and comparing law journals by subject, country of publication, or rank across several categories relevant to scholars and publishers. Maki appointed to the Iowa Board of Pharmacy

Governor Kim Reynolds has appointed Erik Maki, associate professor and clinical sciences department chair in the Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS), to a three-year term on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, effective May 1, 2021.  An Iowa native, Maki received his PharmD in 2003 from the University of Iowa and completed an ASHP accredited specialty residency in pharmacotherapy at Texas Tech University. Maki joined the faculty of CPHS in 2005 and has served on numerous committees at the College and University level, most recently including the College Administrative Committee, Admissions Committee, and DELTA Rx Faculty Board, and has been elected to the University Faculty Senate for three terms. He was named the Faculty Preceptor of the Year in 2017, and in 2021, received the college’s Richard Morrow Transformational Leadership Award and the University’s Madelyn...

Drake Law School is pleased to announce the arrival of two new faculty members. Nickole Miller and Jeremy Kidd joined the full-time faculty on July 1. Assistant Professor of Law Nickole Miller is the new director of Drake’s Middleton Center for Children’s Rights. Professor of Law Jeremy Kidd joins the faculty to teach contracts and business law courses. “Our new faculty are accomplished educators and scholars, and bring a wealth of professional experience to Drake Law,” said Jerry L. Drake Law second-year student Shane Salwasser earns prestigious Equal Justice Works 2021 Rural Summer Legal Corps Fellowship

Shane Salwasser, 2L, was recently named an Equal Justice Works 2021 Rural Summer Legal Corps Student Fellow. The Rural Summer Legal Corps, a partnership between Equal Justice Works and the Legal Services Corporation, is a summer internship designed to help address the access-to-justice crisis for people living in rural areas. Shane was one of 35 students selected from over 460 applicants. For the duration of the internship, he will work with Iowa Legal Aid to provide direct civil legal assistance to rural clients and engage in community outreach and education. Drake’s RaySociety to be renamed Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Drake University

Drake University’s lifelong learning organization known as the RaySociety received a $100,000 grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation to strengthen and expand its programming. As a result, the RaySociety will be renamed the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Drake University.
