Drake Advertising students win GRIT challenge

The American Advertising Federation of Des Moines (AAFDSM) held its annual student conference, GRIT, on November 8.  The event was held at Meredith Corporation headquarters and it attracted students from Iowa State, DMACC, Simpson, Grand View and Drake.

During the event the Iowa Food Systems Council presented their current campaign, Cultivate Iowa, of which ’07 Advertising Account Management grad Joel Brewer was the chief strategic architect.  Students were placed in teams and were challenged to create a campaign extension.  The team which included Ad Creative majors Tina Stanley and Kaitlyn Gehringer, along with Open Journalism student Jack Jaques, won the event based on the decision of the AAFDSM panel of judges.  The judges stated that this team’s campaign was the most complete and expanded well beyond the minimum requirements set forth in the competition. The team also effectively used the provided research to make sound decisions for their campaign.
