Representatives from Drake's Buy Fresh Buy Local will visit five Des Moines area markets encouraging market goers to buy fresh, local foods.

Jim Johnson, defensive coordinator of Drake's football team from 1969-72, spent the last 10 years orchestrating the renowned Philadelphia Eagles defense.

Shoppers will receive $1 coupons to use toward a purchase of locally grown, fresh produce. Plus, 150 shoppers will receive a free, reusable market tote.

Market goers can donate produce, baked goods, canned and boxed meals or cash while listening to music by Jerry and the Moonlighters.

Children will receive free books from Drake's School of Education and market goers can get information about programs from Visiting Nurse Services.

Representatives from L.U.N.A. will be present to talk about their services.

More than 9,000 athletes are expected to visit Drake Stadium during the track and field competition, which runs through Saturday, Aug. 8.

Visitors can enjoy a fresh-roasted ear of sweet corn while shopping at the market from 4-7 p.m.

Drake is among 158 Midwest institutions selected for the ranking, which was released this week.
