Interviews begin for next Supreme Court justices
Former Drake University faculty member Inga Bumbary-Langston was one of four candidates for the Iowa Supreme Court to be interviewed by a state commission on Jan. 24. A total of 60 applicants applied, including 18 Drake alumni.

Drake University alumnus Billy Cundiff, the Baltimore Ravens and Pro Bowl kicker, has reached a five-year, $15 million contract agreement with the Ravens, according to ESPN. Cundiff made 26 of 29 field goals this season with a long of 49 yards. He made all 39 extra points he attempted.

Revolution was in part about protecting judges
Republican legislators are currently considering whether to impeach the remaining justices of the Iowa Supreme Court because they disagree with its Varnum v. Brien decision to legalize same-sex civil marriage. This is an appallingly bad idea regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees with that decision. When politicians can change the rules of the democratic game by simply changing the judges, everyone's rights and liberties are at risk.

Drake JMC alumnus Peter Lewis is profiled by Stanford's student newspaper. He is the Hearst visiting professor in the communication department and spent a year as a Knight fellow at Stanford in 2010. Lewis also worked at The New York Times, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the birth of the Internet and wrote a novel in Argentina.
