Drake hosts play about a fictional encounter between King and Malcolm X

A play about a fictional
encounter between King and Malcolm X will be performed from 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 25, in Drake University’s Parents Hall in Olmsted Center, 2875
University Ave.

The play, titled “The Meeting,” is a rendition of what playwright
Jeff Stetson imagines a clandestine meeting might have been like between
two of the most influential men of their times: the Rev. King and
Malcolm X.

“We try to do something different every year in honor of Dr. King,”
said Latasha Stiger, director of campus programming. “The play will
provide an insightful look into the possible dialogue between Dr. King
and Malcolm X and will be more interactive than having a single
speaker.”

The play examines both the public and private lives of the two
civil-rights leaders: the clash of their ideas and tactics for the
advancement of freedom. It demonstrates the humanity of two devout men
of faith and leaders willing to lay down their lives for the cause of
justice.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the
Coalition of Black Students, the Student Life Office and the Dean of
Students Office. For more information on the content of the performance,
