Justice Brent Appel

Drake University Law School will host its 89th annual Supreme Court Celebration from March 25-28, 2026, highlighting the school’s strong connection to the judiciary and its commitment to legal education.

The celebration will culminate in the Supreme Court Celebration Banquet on Saturday, March 28, held in Parents Hall at the Olmsted Center. The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Register here.

This year’s keynote speaker is Justice Brent Appel. Justice Appel served on the Iowa Supreme Court from 2006 to 2022. Since 2022, he has continued his commitment to legal education as a professor at Drake Law School.

“We are honored to welcome Justice Brent Appel as our Supreme Court Week speaker,” said Dean Roscoe Jones, Jr. “His years of service on the Iowa Supreme Court, combined with his continued role as a legal scholar and educator, embody the values of leadership, public service, and intellectual rigor we aim to instill in our students.”

Supreme Court Celebration week is a long-standing tradition at Drake Law School, providing students with opportunities to engage with members of the judiciary, observe oral arguments, and celebrate the achievements of Drake’s Law Review Journals, Student Bar Association, and Moot Court teams.
