Drake law students will have more opportunity for financial aid thanks to the new David S. and Sara K. Walker Scholarship.
The award, which launched this spring, was established by Drake law school alumni, faculty and friends of the University. It was created to recognize the many years of service and dedication of law professor and former dean David Stanley Walker, and his wife, Sarah Kincaid Walker, a 1983 Drake Law School graduate.
“The goal is to raise enough money to be able to fund a full-tuition scholarship,” said Dean Ben Ullem.
He noted that the project wouldn’t be possible without the support of our loyal alumni and lead donors — Steven Mauer, LW’87, Helen Hall, LA’82,LW’86, Fred Chavez, LW’77,LW’82, John Palter, LW’85, Donald Craib, LW’82, David Rich, LW’84,MBA’84, Richard Davidson, BN’81,LW’84, and Kent Lund, LW’80.
Recipients must be third-year law students with solid academic records, strong character and integrity. The students also must demonstrate leadership; a commitment to public service; a friendly, positive attitude toward others; and an appreciation, respect and a love for the law.
Both David and Sara have enjoyed a longtime commitment to Drake. David served as a professor at Drake for 33 years and dean of the Law School twice. Sara, who retired in 2008, taught business law for 19 years in Drake’s College of Business and Public Administration.
The Walkers have been active with a number of committees serving Drake students, the University, the Law School and their community.
“The Walkers demonstrate strong character, integrity and leadership, serving as an example to others,” said Law School Dean Ben Ullem.
Gifts can be made to the David S. and Sara K. Walker Scholarship fund at any time and in any amount.
