Drake University is one of two schools in the country chosen to compete in the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters Show “War on the Floor” student competition. Radio-TV seniors Rachel Yancey, Eamonn Cogan, Rebecca Altenhofen and Lauren Staller will be participating.

[HTML1]“War on the Floor” pits two teams against each other in a technology scavenger hunt and video production competition during the four-day convention held in Las Vegas, April 11-14. While the competition showcases the skills of the students, it is also structured to expose the students to elements of the broadcast and multimedia production industry with which they are not familiar.
The students will receive an assignment at the start of every day to capture one element of the “content lifecycle.” They will write, produce and edit a final piece to give to the “War on the Floor” show producer by late afternoon. Their videos will be shown online and on monitors around the entire show each day as part of the NAB Show’s signature video content. The students will also be filmed by NAB crews as they work.
NAB will provide the students with Sony cameras, light equipment, mics and support gear for production, and post production will take place on Apple computers outfitted with Final Cut Suite.
Drake competed against schools nation-wide to win the honor. The audition process required the submission of an original creative work, which was judged for its character, use of aesthetic and/or creative elements, sense of structure and timing, production values, technical merit and overall contribution to the discipline in both form and substance.
