Drake select choirs to perform concert featuring repertoire from tour of Midwest

News PhotoFollowing their spring 2011 regional tour of the Midwest, the Drake Choir and Chamber Choir will return to the University to perform a concert on Monday, March 7.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

The choirs, conducted by Aimee Beckmann-Collier, will perform works by Franz Joseph Haydn, George Gershwin, Jules Massenet and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, as well as pieces by contemporary American, Lithuanian and Philippine composers.

The choirs tour regionally on an annual basis. The 2011 tour included stops in Kansas and Missouri, where the ensembles performed daytime concerts for high school audiences and public concerts in the evening.

Beckmann-Collier, director of choral studies and professor of conducting at Drake, is a frequent clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor for choral festivals throughout the country. She is the president of the North Central Division of the American Choral Directors Association and serves as chair of the Iowa Comprehensive Musicianship Project.
