Drake University Teaching Artist Aaron Powell, guitar, will give a recital on Sunday, Nov. 22.
The performance, which is free and open to the public, will start at 7 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.
The program will feature:
- “Fandango” Quintet for guitar and strings by Luigi Boccherini, which will feature guest string musicians from the Des Moines Symphony Alice Bodnar, violin; Charles Miranda, violin; Linda Benoit, viola; Michelle Senger, cello.
- “Fantasia” by Alonso Mudarra
- “Canarios” by Gaspar Sanz
- “The Grand Solo” by Fernando Sor
- “Recuerdos de la Alhambra,” “Capricho Arabe” and “Tango” by Francisco Tarrega
Powell, who joined Drake’s faculty in 2008, has performed as a guitarist with the Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Playhouse and Des Moines Symphony.
He graduated from Simpson College in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
In 2003 he received his master’s degree in music performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
