Kelli Welter, a third-year student at the Drake University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS), was selected by a panel of Drake pharmacy alumni as the 2019-2020 recipient of the C. Boyd Granberg Student Excellence Scholarship Award. In honor of the award’s namesake, this honor recognizes a rising P4 student who has demonstrated leadership in advancing the pharmacy profession and has had significant involvement in professional pharmacy organizations.
Welter, originally from Monticello, IA, has held multiple leadership positions at Drake, within Iowa, and at the national level. At Drake, Welter served as the American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter president-elect and Generation Rx chair. Within Iowa, Welter served on the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) Policy Committee on Professional Affairs and represented Drake University student pharmacists at the 2017 IPA House of Delegates. In 2018, Welter was elected to serve as national president-elect of APhA-ASP, and will be installed in 2019 as national president of APhA-ASP.
In addition to Welter’s impressive leadership accomplishments, she is active in the Beta Chi chapter of Kappa Psi, was a 4-year member of the Drake Dance Team, and has been able to sustain a record of high academic achievement throughout her career at Drake.
“This recognition of Kelli’s involvement and leadership is well-deserved,” said Renae Chesnut, dean of the college. “Like Dr. Granberg, she is an extraordinary person who has taken on leadership roles that positively impact the lives of others. I have no doubt that she will be an exceptional pharmacist because of her passion for the profession.”
The Granberg Student Excellence Scholarship Award, established in 2017 through generous gifts from several Drake pharmacy alumni, recognizes and celebrates the contributions of C. Boyd Granberg, former CPHS dean and faculty member. To read more about this award, click here.
