A group of leading insurance and financial services experts will gather at Drake University next week to educate Iowans on retirement readiness and the changing environment of personal auto insurance.
U.S. Senator Tom Harkin will kick off the free event, which was organized by Drake’s actuarial science program in collaboration with several major companies and includes speakers from PwC, TIAA-CREF, The Principal Financial Group, IPERS and Allstate. Roundtable discussions will be held on Oct. 7 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in Drake University’s Olmsted Center. Harkin will speak beginning at 8:30 a.m.
“This is an exceptional opportunity to explore timely challenges and innovative solutions from some of the foremost experts in personal finance and insurance,” said Rahul Parsa, professor of actuarial science at Drake University. “Whether you know a little or a lot about these issues, you’ll find a great deal of value in the discussions, particularly in the area of retirement savings.”
The event is sure to attract industry professionals and young learners who are preparing for the workforce, including students from Drake University’s actuarial science program, which is one of only 15 schools in the United States to be recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center for Actuarial Excellence.

“Most people aren’t saving enough for retirement, and aren’t sure how to secure their futures. Understanding is the first step to finding a solution,” Parsa said.
