Drake hosts literacy conference for more than 200 Iowa teachers

On Sept. 19, more than 200 Iowa teachers, consultants, and administrators gathered at Drake University’s Parents Hall for a literacy conference led by Nell K. Duke, professor of literacy, language, and culture at the University of Michigan.

Duke is known for her recent work with implementing the National Core, a literacy curriculum for K-3rd grade teachers. Workshop attendees received a copy of her book, Inside Information: Developing Powerful Readers and Writers of Informational Text Through Project-Based Instruction.

The event was sponsored by the Iowa chapter of the Association for School Curriculum Development (ASCD).
