Graduation does not mean separation

Young Alumni Brunch32Just graduated and not ready to part ways with Drake? The good news is YOU NEVER HAVE TO—you’re part of the Bulldog family for life.

The Young Alumni Committee is open to anyone who has graduated in the last 10 years or is under 35-years-old. The leadership committee consists of graduates living in the Central Iowa area.

The newly created Young Alumni Committee is offering a wealth of ways for recent grads to stay connected—starting with a brunch, which was held for the first time during the 2014 Relays weekend.

“A major priority for our office has been to engage recent alumni, so we formed a committee to assist in our efforts,” says Jessica Berger, assistant director of alumni relations. “We hope it will turn into a flagship model for our leadership groups across the country and keep our recent graduates engaged and connected.”

The Young Alumni Brunch served as the official launch for the committee.

“The brunch was a fun and relaxing way for folks to connect,” says Berger. “It was also an opportunity to introduce them to the newly opened Alumni House.”

The committee has planned three events for the summer. The first was held at Jasper Winery on June 19.

In July, the committee is coordinating an event with Mixology at the Science Center of Iowa. And for August, the group is planning an event at Americana and the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. Check the Alumni website for more details coming soon.

“There are over 18,000 Drake alumni in central Iowa, and a large percentage fall into the young alumni category,” says Jason Wells, JO’04, member of the committee. “Networking can lead to so many excellent professional opportunities, and what better way to network than with Drake Bulldogs, who already have something in common with you?”
