On June 9, Drake alumnus Todd Shaw, BN’86 presented a gift to Dean McMahill to create the Donald D. Shaw Family Scholarship for future STEM educators. Todd and his wife, Elizabeth, chose to support this endowed scholarship to honor Todd’s father, Donald Shaw, ED’55, GR’62, a lifelong educator in the Des Moines Public Schools.  His career spanned decades, beginning with teaching and continuing with 30 years devoted to building leadership as principal of seven different inner-city schools.

The scholarship has been funded with an initial gift of $35,000, which will gain perpetual interest and build the School of Education undergraduate scholarship. The first scholarship will be awarded to a freshman student entering Drake in fall 2015 with a declared STEM concentration.
