Education Leadership Symposium: Implementing Standards-Based Grading

The Drake University Education Leadership Symposium entitled, ‘The Leader’s Role in Implementing Standards-Based Grading’ will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.  The symposium will feature Dr. Thomas Guskey, a Professor of Educational Psychology in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky.  Dr. Guskey is the author/editor of numerous books, articles, and professional papers on educational measurement, evaluation, assessment, and grading.

As educators align instruction and assessments with the Common Core standards for student learning, most find they also must change their grading policies and revise their report card. This symposium will focus on how to develop new standards-based grading policies and practices that are better for ALL students, how to gain the support of parents, and how to avoid excessive work for teachers.

The session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m.. Each participant will receive a copy of Dr. Guskey’s book, “Developing Standards-Based Report Cards.” This event includes a continental breakfast and an on-site lunch.  The session will take place at the Iowa Events Center, Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa.  The cost is $150 and the registration deadline is June 9, 2014.
