Anderson Gallery joins with AIGA Iowa to exhibit award-winning designs

News PhotoAnderson Gallery’s upcoming exhibition, AIGA 365, showcases more than 100 best examples of communication design from 2009. The works are selected from the annual design competition held annually by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and originally exhibited at the National Design Center in New York City.

The exhibition brings together works from various categories of design “” from promotional design and identity systems to website and exhibition design. All works included in the exhibition were designed, produced and in the marketplace between Jan.1 and Dec. 31, 2009.

“AIGA 365: Annual Design Competition 31” will open with a reception from 5-8p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. The event is free and open to the public.

The exhibition coincides with the AIGA Iowa chapter’s third annual Design Month events. For more information on AIGA Iowa and the upcoming schedule of events visit www.aigaiowa.org.

Regular Anderson Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. “AIGA 365: National Design Competition 31” closes Sunday, Oct. 30.

Anderson Gallery Film Series

New this year, the Anderson Gallery is offering a film series organized in conjunction with the exhibition season. Films are chosen based on the themes of the exhibition currently on view. All film screenings are free and open to the public.

In conjunction with AIGA 365, the Anderson Gallery will present Handmade Nation on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Bulldog Theater, located in the lower level of the Olmsted Center on Drake’s campus. The film will begin at 7 p.m.

Handmade Nation documents the new wave of art, craft and design that is capturing the attention of the nation. It is the feature film debut of director, author, artist and curator Faythe Levine.
