Morning personality and Program Director Van Harden (RTV’73) told JMC73 Radio News students Sept. 29 the strength of WHO-AM remains its coverage and discussion of “local” issues and events. Harden’s first full-time employment was for KDLS in Perry, where he previously interned. Van then worked in Tulsa radio a year before returning in 1975 to KRNT, Des Moines, as its midday personality. He joined clear-channel WHO in 1986 as morning host. Harden and present day Co-Host Bonnie Lucas recently received a “Personality of the Year” Marconi award from the National Association of Broadcasters.
The class enjoyed a close-up look at Clear Channel Des Moines’ production studios and conversed with Van in the building’s “Drake Blue” conference room.
