Faculty members and students in Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences had a strong presence at the recent 20th Annual Pharmacy Educational Expo.
Held at the downtown Des Moines Marriott Jan. 22-24, the event was sponsored by the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) and the Collaborative Education Institute.
The expo drew students, professors, professional pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to explore topics and presentations related to pharmacy practice.
Eleven Drake faculty members presented lectures on a wide array of topics. The faculty members who presented are:
- Michelle Bottenberg, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Use of Aspirin for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease”
- Cheryl Clarke, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Review of Common Cardiovascular Medications”
- Jane DeWitt, associate professor of social and administrative sciences in pharmacy, “Iowa Pharmacy Law Review” and “Federal Pharmacy Law Review”
- Darla Eastman, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Intense Glucose Control in Inpatients”
- Anisa Fornoff, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Understanding Depression”
- Carrie Koenigsfeld, associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Sally Haack, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “PPI vs. OTC Calcium Carbonate and H2 Blockers”
- Kristin Meyer, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “The Pharmacist’s Role in Recognition and Management of Alzheimer’s” and “Pharmacists and Student Pharmacists Making a Difference” with students Jordan Ruestman and Victoria Erxleben
- Andrew Miesner, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Completing the Puzzle: Where New Drugs Fit in Cardiovascular Management”
- Ginelle Schmidt, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, “Exploring Vitamin D Deficiency”
- Geoff Wall, associate professor of pharmacy practice, “Evolving Treatments for Patients with Fibromyalgia”
The Iowa Pharmacy Association provides educational programming to advance pharmacy practice, enhance the knowledge of pharmacy practitioners and enhance the quality of pharmaceutical care provided to patients. Education provided by the association utilizes contemporary adult learning strategies and provides the most current information available regarding medication therapy and issues related to the practice of pharmacy.
