Carol lei Breckenridge, professor of music at Central College in Pella, Iowa, will perform a harpsichord concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7.

The guest recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

The harpsichord, invented in 18th century Europe, is a keyboard instrument that produces sound by plucking a string when a key is pressed.

Breckenridge holds degrees in piano from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa. She is a specialist in early keyboard music and has become an active recitalist and lecturer on harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano.

She has performed clavichord programs as part of the C.P.E. Bach Symposium at Cornell University and was a featured performer in the 1995 International Clavichord Symposium in Magnano, Italy.

In 2002, Lark Wood Music released Breckenridge’s CD, titled “Music by Haydn and Mozart on Fortepiano.”

A full list of upcoming musical performances can be found in the online Drake Fine Arts Calendar.
