Brian Adams-Thies, Drake University assistant professor of anthropology, will discuss his research addressing the rise of public gay identity in Madrid, Spain, on Friday, Oct. 30.
The lecture, titled “Paradoxes of Sex in Space: Gendered Readings of el Centro de Madrid,” will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Medbury Honors Lounge, 2730 Forest Ave.
The event, which is part of the Drake University’s Humanities Center Colloquium Series, is free and open to the public.
Adams-Thies’ research looks at geographic space and the importance of that space to the construction and transmission of culture.
His lecture is based on anthropological research in Madrid but also engages history and cultural geography. Madrid’s center has long been a preoccupation with governmental regimes in Spain.
