WEDNESDAY, OCT. 7 — Des Moines
Lunch to preview upcoming events and men’s basketball season
Drake Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb and Men’s Head Basketball Coach Mark Phelps will preview the upcoming basketball season and other Drake athletic events in the Let’s DU Lunch series on Wednesday, Oct. 7.


This event, which is open to the public, will be held at AllPlay, located at 615 3rd Street in downtown Des Moines.  Doors open for networking at 11:30 a.m. and the lunch and program begin at noon.

Clubb will speak about preparations for Drake to host the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2010.  Named Drake’s 16th athletic director in 2006, Clubb was instrumental in hosting the successful 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium.  

Other accomplishments under Clubb’s leadership include the Drake men’s and women’s basketball teams winning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) championships and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the men’s tennis team has won three MVC titles and the softball and men’s soccer teams competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2008.

Phelps will preview the upcoming basketball season and share information on his incoming recruiting class, ranked No. 1 among MVC schools for the 2009-2010 season by several recruiting publications.

a lecture by Drake alumnus Dan Cosgrove, vice president for biotech

THURSDAY, OCT. 8 — DES MOINES 
College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Day

Alumni will visit campus for the National Advisory Council meeting and speak with students and professors in various First Year Seminar classes. Alumni will also speak from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in room 211 of Olin Hall in a panel, titled “Beyond Drake,” which is open to juniors and seniors in the college. FRIDAY, OCT. 9
Last call for National D Club Reunion reservations

The National D Club Reunion weekend will kick off with a special ceremony on Friday, Oct. 9, in the Knapp Center’s Paul Morrison Hall of Honor. 

The weekend will also honor the 1969 Pecan Bowl and 1972 Pioneer Bowl teams. 

Participants will also take part in a campus tour, Chili feed and pre-game party and Drake football game vs. Missouri S&T on Oct. 10.

Drake vs. Missouri S&T Homecoming Tailgate — Drake Homecoming 2009

Join the Drake family for a homecoming pre-game tailgate bash and cheer on the Bulldogs as they take on Missouri S&T. Spike, members of the Drake Marching Band and the Cheer Squad will be on hand to get us fired up. While you’re “home,” celebrate and help us recognize the 1969 Pecan Bowl and 1972 Pioneer Bowl teams. 

Tailgate: Saturday, Oct. 10, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.; North Plaza of Drake Stadium; $15 per person

Pre-game picnic: faculty and staff dining room of the Hahn University Center, Marian Way. Cost, which includes picnic, a Drake gift and ticket for a prize drawing, is $25 per adult and $15 per youth (12 and under). 

Game: Drake vs. San Diego, 2 p.m. Torero Stadium

Drake vs. Davidson Pre-game Reception and Football Game 

Pre-game reception: 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Brickhouse Tavern, 209 Delburg St., Davidson N.C.

Game: Drake vs. Davidson, 1 p.m., Richardson Stadium

There is no cost to attend the pre-game reception; food and beverage will be available for purchase. Game tickets are available for $12 per adult and $6 per child (age 12 and under), and can be obtained by calling the Davidson Athletic Ticket Office at 800-768-2287.

MONDAY, NOV. 2
Christmas Madrigal Dinner tickets to go on sale Nov. 2

Enjoy a holiday feast and laughs with friends at Drake University’s annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6, in Olmsted Center.
 
The evening will feature a decadent Renaissance feast with wine and Cornish game hen, garlic mashed potatoes, spinach salad, baked apple, scones, wassail and figgy pudding, which is presented in a flaming fashion. Vegetarian meals are also available.

The night also features funny performances by strolling minstrels, jugglers and dancers as the Drake Chamber Choir serenades the audience. The performers encourage guests to talk and get involved instead of similar events of its kind in which the audience is expected to sit quietly.

Tickets, which will go on sale Nov. 2, are $50 each and tables can be reserved as well. The ticket cost covers a night of entertainment, wine and food.

Alumnus to give presentation at November Let’s DU Lunch

Let’s DU Lunch will continue the fall series on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with a lecture by Drake alumnus Dan Cosgrove, vice president for biotech business development at Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., a DuPont business.

Cost is $17 and reservations are recommended due to limited seating. Drake and the Greater Des Moines Partnership sponsor all luncheons.
