Drake University’s spring International Film Series will
continue on Sunday, March 1, with a screening of “Rana’s Wedding,” a
Palestinian film with English subtitles.
The film will begin at 2 p.m. in room 101 of Meredith Hall,
2805 University Ave. Mahmoud Hamad, assistant professor of politics, will
introduce the film.
The film centers on a Palestinian girl who wishes to marry a
man of her own choosing.
Rana, 17, wakes up one morning to an ultimatum by her
father: she must either choose a husband from a pre-selected list of men or
leave Palestine for Egypt with her father that afternoon.
With only ten hours to find her boyfriend, Khalil, in
occupied Jerusalem, she sneaks out of her father’s house at daybreak to find
her forbidden love.
