Highly accomplished flutist Jill Felber will perform a recital as a guest artist at Drake University on Sunday, Nov. 2.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will start at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.
Hailed by the Detroit News for her “beautifully finished performances,” Felber has performed solo recitals, chamber music and concertos around the world. In addition, she has held residencies in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, and the United States. She recently was elected to the National Flute Association Board of Directors.
A tireless promoter of new music, Felber has inspired many composers to write solo and chamber works for her and her flute duo ZAWA! She has premiered more than 300 works for flute and has released world premier recordings for Centaur Records, CRI, Neuma records and ZAWA!MUSIC.
Felber, known for her motivational teaching style, is a professor of flute at the University of California – Santa Barbara. In addition to teaching, she performs as principal flute with the Santa Barbara Grand Opera. She holds degrees in music from the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University. Her teachers include Keith Bryan, Judith Bentley, Samuel Baron and James Galway.
