Dr. Ferrare’s keynote speech Education in the 21st Century: Progress and Promise will explore the future of education, both in K-12 and higher educational institutions. Ferrare is the president and a senior consultant with Academic Search, Inc. He has led searches for presidents, academic vice presidents, and deans in public and private colleges and universities as well as church affiliated schools and independent liberal arts and fine arts institutions. Prior to joining Academic Search, Dr. Ferrare was dean of the school of education at Drake University. As dean, he successfully enacted what he taught in his faculty role, that of associate professor of leadership and adult development. While at Drake, too, Ferrare led a string of successful searches for university administrators, faculty members, and high-profile school superintendents. Before coming to Drake, he served as associate executive director of the School Administrators of Iowa and as associate superintendent of schools for West Des Moines Community School district. He also has taught elementary and middle school.
During the dinner, three SOE alumni will be honor with Outstanding Alumni Awards. Nominations are currently being accepted for those awards and should submitted to Tracy Bainter, Marketing Coordinator for the School of Education. Winners will be announced January 7, 2008.
The evening also serves as a celebration of the accomplishments of the SOE’s current students and future educators. The undergraduate class of 2008 will be asked to stand to be recognized and each student will receive a gift from the college.
