There’s no need for a backstage pass to sample the arts from behind-the-scenes at Drake University during the second annual Friends of Drake Arts Reception and Open House Friday, Sept. 29. The free event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue.

Visitors may watch or join master classes in voice and mime, view Yoji Matsumura’s “Lost and Found” installation in the Anderson Gallery and a student exhibition in Weeks Gallery, as well as explore set and costume design for Drake’s production of “Nickel and Dimed.”

Guests are free to sample all the activities, or just take in one or two of their favorites. Refreshments will be served in the main lobby of the Harmon Fine Arts Center throughout the event. Following the open house, visitors are invited to attend a free concert featuring Drake’s two award-winning jazz ensembles at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Hall of the Harmon Fine Arts Center.
