On Sunday, March 9, the Drake University Symphony Orchestra will perform one of the great masterpieces of 20th century music — the complete score for Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “Petrushka.”
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will start at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.
John Canarina, director of orchestral activities at Drake, will conduct the symphony. The featured soloist will be senior Justin Brookens, winner of the Drake Soloist Competition, who will be heard in the Trumpet Concerto in F minor by Oskar Böhme. Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture” will complete the program.
The Drake Symphony’s second concert of the semester has been postponed from April 29 to May 6. The performance will start at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium.
Drake Jazz Ensemble I, which had been scheduled to perform May 6, will now give a free concert at 8 p.m. April 29 on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium.
