La Alianza is a student organization at Drake Law School dedicated to supporting Hispanic and Latinx law students while promoting cultural awareness and inclusion within the legal community. It offers a welcoming space for students to connect, celebrate their heritage, and engage with the broader Hispanic community in Des Moines through service, education, and professional development.
At its core, La Alianza fosters a sense of belonging.
“The best part about being a member of La Alianza is the sense of community we build by welcoming others,” shared members. “It’s a space where everyone feels included and supported, which makes law school feel a lot more like home.”
Through social events, networking opportunities, and community outreach, La Alianza encourages students to build meaningful relationships that extend beyond the classroom. These experiences help members grow personally and professionally while deepening ties to the Hispanic community.
“People should join La Alianza because it’s a great way to learn and be part of the Hispanic community here in the Des Moines metro area,” said one member. “It also offers valuable opportunities to connect with attorneys who are either part of the Hispanic community or work closely with it, helping members build meaningful professional relationships.”
Beyond professional growth, La Alianza is a space for genuine friendship and connection.
“La Alianza has helped me form stronger connections with my classmates by giving us a chance to hang out and get to know each other outside of the classroom,” said another member. “It’s a reminder that law school isn’t just about studying, it’s also about community and friendship.”
Through its commitment to inclusion, culture, and connection, La Alianza strengthens the Drake Law community and ensures every student feels at home.
