Drake’s Women’s Awareness Coalition will present benefit performances of “The Vagina Monologues” at 7 p.m. Feb. 8, 9 and 10 in Bulldog Theater to coincide with the V-Day campaign, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.
Proceeds for the Drake performances will benefit the Women of Color Advisory Network, an outreach program of the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault. This year’s readings will include the debut performance of “They beat the girl out of my boy…or so they tried” as well as “My Short Skirt” and “My Angry Vagina.”
Tickets cost $6 for those with a Drake ID and $10 for the general public. For tickets, call the Drake Student Life Center at 515-271-3711.
Each performance will be preceded by a carnival at 6 p.m. in Olmsted Center, featuring informational booths from various women’s organizations and advocacy groups. In addition, a women’s literature and art journal consisting of student-submitted work, titled “VaJournal,” will be available for purchase at the performances.
The V-Day campaign is sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, Rainbow Union and Drake University Voice of Choice. For more information about the V-Day Campaign, contact Rachel Gulick at reg004@drake.edu.
