Wayne Edmiston, 2L

This Veterans Day, Drake Law School proudly recognizes the student veterans in our community whose service, leadership, and dedication continue to make a profound impact both in and out of the classroom.

2L student, Wayne Edmiston, is pursuing his J.D. at Drake after serving 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and completing multiple combat deployments.

“Going to law school was always something I wanted to do,” Wayne shared. “I spent a few years on Capitol Hill as a military liaison. During that time, I was up close and personal with the impact of the law.”

He credits his success in law school to “discipline, the ability to connect with diverse teams, and a little bit of grit. Law school is just another hard thing… all things worth doing tend to be hard.”

As President of the Drake Military and Veterans Law Society, Wayne is proud of the veteran community at Drake. “Our veterans bring a unique perspective. We’ve been places where rule of law has failed, violent oppression exists, and due process has dissolved.”

Today and every day, we are grateful for our student veterans and value their perspectives in service, strength, and integrity that they bring to the Drake Law community.
