High school students are invited to sign up for our annual Media Now summer camp July 7-10 at Drake University in Des Moines.
Students will have a chance to stay in the dorms and eat in the Drake dining hall – all while growing their journalism and media skills.

The camp includes a variety of tracks taught by some of the top high school journalism teachers in the county and Drake SJMC professors. They include:
- Design
- Editorial Leadership
- Motion Graphics in After Effects
- Photography Essentials
- Photography Advanced
- Careers in Communications
- Social Media
- Sports Broadcasting
- Video Storytelling
- Writing Essentials
- Writing Advanced
- Yearbook
- Advising Publications
Students and advisers choose a single-track to immerse themselves in the three-night, four-day overnight camp experience. Participate in hands-on projects and showcase them in a campus-wide awards ceremony to cap off our time together. It’s an awesome opportunity to deep dive into that area of interest and hone your skills. No matter what level you arrive with, we’ll push you, encourage and train you to move to the next.
We keep our class sizes small so each student gets maximum attention from the instructor, room to collaborate with their peers and space to apply what they’re learning. As we head into our 15th season of Media Now, we are confident we have the right formula of learning and fun to make this a highlight experience for any student journalist or communications student.
