The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has announced that Nic Lehman, PharmD, BCACP, associate professor of pharmacy practice in Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS), was selected as a 2024 Fellow by the APhA-APPM (American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management). Lehman will be presented with the award during this year’s APhA Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place from March 22–24, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.

This honor serves as a testament to Lehman’s exceptional professional accomplishments and his unwavering commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession through outstanding service. Lehman’s commitment to Drake University spans thirteen years, during which he has played a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional landscape within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. A Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, he also has a clinical practice on behalf of Drake at UnityPoint West Des Moines Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Clinics where he specializes in primary care, immunizations, diabetes, and cardiovascular/renal/metabolic-related disease state management.

Lehman received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa and completed a Primary Care Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Iowa City VA Medical Center. He has served APhA as a member of the House of Delegates, Policy Standing Committee, Diabetes SIG Education Committee Chair, and a Faculty Advisor for Drake University’s APhA-ASP National Patient Counseling Competition. In addition to APhA, Lehman is active in the Iowa Pharmacy Association and was selected to serve on the American Council on Pharmacy Accreditation Continuing Pharmacy Education Commission.

“Nic Lehman’s appointment as a fellow of APhA is a testament to his numerous contributions and dedication to the pharmacy profession,” said Chuck Phillips, interim dean and professor.  “His commitment to advancing patient care and the profession of pharmacy make him a well-deserved recipient of the APhA Fellowship award.”

The APhA Fellow Award was established in 1987 to recognize APhA members who have demonstrated exemplary achievements in professional practice and have contributed significantly to the profession through their involvement in APhA and other organizations. With a highly selective limit of ten members, Lehman’s selection as a Fellow is a testament to his outstanding leadership, dedication, and impact in the field of pharmacy.

Lehman joins an exclusive group of distinguished CPHS faculty members who have also been honored as APhA Fellows.
