Bob Woodward has graciously agreed to do a Q&A with students, faculty, and staff from 4 – 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 in the Cowles Library Reading Room. Capacity is limited to 150 people for this event, so please contact Lindsay Gilbert at Lindsay.gilbert@drake.edu to register if you wish to attend.

Former investigative reporter for The Washington Post Bob Woodward will deliver the Martin Bucksbaum Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. on April 4 at the Knapp Center.

Apply to be an ONA23 Student Newsroom journalist
Up to 20 students who are passionate about digital media and eager to build their skills and experience will be selected to join this year’s Student Newsroom and Innovation Lab. The newsroom is a unique opportunity to report on industry trends, experiment with new tools and receive guidance from experienced mentors to bring project ideas to life.
Selected undergraduate and graduate students will receive a paid trip to the 2023 Online News Conference in Philadelphia (#ONA23), plus complimentary ONA23 passes and tickets to the 2023 Online Journalism Awards Ceremony.Apply by April 20.

Mark your calendar: Teja Bell to present on April 12 at 7 p.m.
Teja Bell, a guitarist, New Age musician, and Zen master, will be the final speaker in a series of events that the SJMC is hosting to explore human inspiration and innovation. Bell graduated from North High, attended Drake, and teaches meditation for mental and physical health. He will be on campus Wednesday, April 12, with a public event at 7:00 p.m. in the Cowles Library Reading Room sponsored by the Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Slay Fund for Social Justice, and The Comparison Project.

Come and join us at the SJMC Spring Ping Pong Fling Friday, April 14 from 11:30-1 p.m. There will be snacks, mirth, and conviviality for all as we head into summer and fall course registration! Alumni Spotlight: Kayla Craig
Kayla Craig, a magazine major who graduated in 2009, has published her second book: “Every Season Sacred: Reflections, Prayers, and Invitations to Nourish Your Soul and Nurture Your Family Throughout the Year.” It is now available for pre-order.
Her first book, “To Light Their Way: A Collection of Prayers and Liturgies for Parents,” was published in 2021 and was a No. 1 best-seller in the Christian devotionals category.
