Professor Bruhn wins mentor award
Congratulations to our own Dr. Kelly Bruhn, who was honored as the 2022 Madelyn Levitt Mentor of the Year during recent commencement ceremonies. The award was created to recognize faculty and staff who are committed to student success in and out of the classroom. A well deserved honor for a beloved professor!
SJMC student named 2022 Newman Civic Fellow
Drake SJMC student CJ Younger was one of 13 students recognized by the Iowa and Minnesota Campus Compact as 2022 Newman Civic Fellows. The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes students who stand out for their commitment to creating positive change in communities locally and around the world. Campus Compact, a national coalition of colleges and universities working to advance the public purposes of higher education, named 173 student civic leaders from 38 states, Washington, D.C., and Mexico to the 2022 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows.

Jordan Sabine, JO’17, was recently hired by McDonald’s to be a U.S. sustainable sourcing manager.
Gage Church, JO’86, has been named editor of the Ames, Iowa, Tribune; will oversee six Iowa weekly newspapers, and act as a writing coach at The Des Moines Register. Church has worked as a journalist at The Des Moines Register, St. Peterburg, Florida, Times and The New York Times. He has spent the past 15 years in the ministry, including serving as chaplain resident at the Mayo Hospitals and Clinics in Rochester, Minnesota, and as a pastor for a congregation in Ogden, Utah. He is wrapping up his service as pastor at the Central Congregational United Church of Christ in Topeka, Kansas.
