Drake PRSSA wins national professional award

The Drake chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has won a national Teahan Award for excellence. The Drake chapter was recognized for its strong relationship with the local professional community. Remember to celebrate the PR major’s reaccreditation during an international virtual event on Wednesday, Nov. 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Mer. 124C. Pizza will be served! Drake will be featured at approximately 12:25 p.m.

Become an orientation leader

Each year the University recruits current Drake students to become part of the orientation leader staff. Orientation leaders work closely with new students and their families on a wide variety of topics, including academics, student involvement, housing options and more.

An information session is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Click here to sign up for a session!

Information sessions about study abroad class to Germany, Poland

Dorothy Pisarski, emerita professor of advertising, and Arts and Sciences Dean Gesine Gerhard are leading a study abroad course to Germany and Poland on May 31-June 14, 2022. Pisarski is the child of a Holocaust survivor and a Polish speaker. Gerhard is a native of Germany. Their class, “Heritage and Holocaust,” will travel to Munich, Nuremburg, Dresden, Berlin, Krakow and Warsaw. Students will visit former concentration camps Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Gross- Rosen, Auschwitz and Birkenau.

There are three upcoming Zoom informational meetings about the course:

Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. CDT
Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. CDT
Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. CST

Alumni news

Lindsay Miller Robell, JO’11, a magazines and biology double major, recently joined the University of Michigan Health-West as a neuro-oncologist.

Sara Danzinger, JO’99, recently completed her master’s degree from the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota, where she is director of internal communications and media relations for the College of Liberal Arts.
