During the annual Health Professions Day (formerly Pharmacy and Health Sciences Day), held on February 27, 2020, the College of Pharmacy and Health Science presented various awards to preceptors and fieldwork educators who demonstrate outstanding teaching and mentorship to students at their practice sites. Nominations for the awards are sought from students within the college.

Occupational therapy preceptors:

Andrea Skellenger was named the Level I Fieldwork Educator of the Year. Dr. Skellenger is an occupational therapist at Great Regional Medical Center in Creston, IA and has served as a CPHS fieldwork educator since 2017.

Colleen Auen was named the Level II Fieldwork Educator of the Year. Dr. Auen is an occupational therapist at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA and has served as a CPHS fieldwork educator since 2017.

Amy Dotson was named the Doctoral Capstone Mentor of the Year. Ms. Dotson is an occupational therapist at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, IA and has served as a doctoral capstone mentor since 2018.

Pharmacy Preceptors:

Troy Padellford, PH’91, was named the IPPE Preceptor of the Year. Mr. Padellford is a Pharmacy Director at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics in Knoxville, IA and has served as an IPPE and APPE preceptor for CPHS since 1998.

DeeAnn Wedemeyer Oleson, PH’99, was named the APPE Preceptor of the Year. Dr. Wedemeyer Oleson is the Director of Pharmacy at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa and as served as an APPE and IPPE preceptor for CPHS since 2002.

Health Sciences Preceptor:

Mary Alice Butler was named the Health Sciences Preceptor of the Year. Ms. Butler is the owner of Elder Concerns in Des Moines, IA. She will accept the award at the senior breakfast in the spring. (not available for a picture)
