ITS waits to allow users to update their Drake owned computers until after the first two patches of a new operating system (OS) are released. This delay allows for the resolution of the majority of security issues and bugs, as well as provides ITS with a chance to test Drake systems in the new OS. Because OS updates can’t be rolled back, ITS needs to be especially careful when timing upgrades to ensure that faculty and staff can still use their computers for all essential Drake functions.
ITS staff are currently testing Mac OS High Sierra 10.13 and are finding compatibility issues with connections to our enterprise storage solution (Xythos), Microsoft Outlook, as well as intermittent account authentication problems.
If you you still would like to upgrade to High Sierra, you can request an upgrade exception by submitting an IT service portal request at https://drake.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=16678. Though some exceptions can be made, ITS provides limited support when upgrading to a non-recommended OS version.
