SJMC students win national writing awards
Two SJMC students finished in the top 10 in the recent Hearst contest feature-writing competition.
May graduate Cole Norum finished second and senior Molly Longman finished 10th. There were 140 entries submitted to the contest from 74 JMC programs nationwide. The only other institution that had two top-10 winners was Indiana University; Drake was the only private institution in the top 10.
2017 Upper Midwest Emmy Scholarship available
The Upper Midwest Emmy Chapter offers scholarships to college students who have completed at least two years of school and are majoring in electronic media. The grants will be used for tuition and fees. See the Emmy website for more information and the scholarship application, which is due Feb. 6.
Alumni notes
Kyle Martin, JO’90, operations manager and morning personality at KFJB in Marshalltown, Iowa, has been inducted into the 2017 Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association Hall of Fame. Martin started out as a DJ at KIOA in Des Moines while still at Drake.
A.J. Harrison, JO’12, has been honored for “excellence in communications” by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Harrison is assistant director of athletic communications at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
