Kelsey Japs, a third-year PharmD candidate at Drake, co-wrote an article with Elisa Herrera, a third-year PharmD candidate at the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy, for the American Pharmacy Association on the importance of volunteering as a pharmacy student. Japs and Herrera believe that volunteering and working in a community can help expose pharmacy students to new ideas, along with improving patient care skills. Especially as pharmacy students move to new cities for internships and jobs in health care, Japs and Herrera highlight the importance of understanding the community in order to provide better health care services.
